What Is An Oxygen Concentrator?

As the name suggests, simply put, an oxygen concentrator concentrates your oxygen supply so you can breathe more oxygen. It’s a medical device you can use for oxygen therapy as an individual at home, or in a medical setting such as a hospital.

An oxygen concentrator provides a long-term source of oxygen, and consists of a cabinet that houses the compressor and filters; tubing; a nasal cannula and/or face mask.

Oxygen Concentrator vs Oxygen Tank:

An oxygen concentrator generates oxygen, so it never runs out of oxygen. An oxygen tank, typically has stored oxygen that runs out in a few days.

Oxygen Concentrator vs Oxygen Ventilator:

An oxygen ventilator forces oxygen into the patient’s lungs. However, when using an oxygen concentrator, the patient breathes or inhales the oxygen themselves.

Who Needs An Oxygen Concentrator?

People who have conditions that cause their oxygen levels to drop are the ones who need to use an oxygen concentrator. Some of these conditions include:

  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Covid-19
  • The flu
  • Lung cancer

These are just some of the reasons why you may need one – let me know in the comments which conditions require you to look for an oxygen concentrator today! 🙂

Types Of Oxygen Concentrators Available In Kenya

There are 2 broad types of oxygen concentrators – portable and non-portable oxygen concentrators

1: Portable Oxygen Concentrators

Portable oxygen concentrators are light-weight and can be carried around, giving you an un-interrupted supply of oxygen whether you’re at home, at work or around town!

Our portable oxygen concentrators provide a continuous supply of up to 95% medical grade pure oxygen. Most portable oxygen concentrators use lithium-ion batteries, which can be recharged approximately 300 times without significant degradation. In other words, most of these batteries can last a few years.

Portable concentrators also come with back-up batteries you can swap without interrupting your oxygen supply.
